Don Goelzer founded Goelzer Investment Management in 1969. His vision was to build a company based on trust, integrity, and commitment while delivering the highest level of personalized service to clients. Don’s strategy for Goelzer & Co., Inc. – the firm’s founding name – was to forge long-term relationships with both clients and the investment professionals who would join Goelzer in the years to come. From its inception, Goelzer & Co. established itself by demonstrating its commitment to providing clients with unbiased financial counsel.
Goelzer grew steadily as an investment bank and broker-dealer in the early years, owing principally to the quality of its executive management – one of the most experienced in the financial services industry. Already a 19-year veteran of the investment industry when he started Goelzer, Don was a founding Director of the Indianapolis chapter of the National Security Traders Association and has served as President and Director of the Indianapolis Stock & Bond Club. He was also active in the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) for many years.
Early to respond to the needs of clients who required increasingly advanced portfolio management services, in 1981 Goelzer broadened its mission by becoming a registered investment advisor, providing fee-based discretionary management to individual and institutional clients. The subsequent acquisitions of Kiser, Cohn, & Shumaker and Collett & Co., Inc. deepened Goelzer’s team of financial consultants with the addition of highly regarded investment professionals from these established firms. Indeed, Goelzer investment advisors have always been of the highest professional standing. Several hold the “CFA” (Chartered Financial Analyst) designation, a standard strongly encouraged by Mr. Goelzer and which he supported through his memberships in the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Indianapolis. In addition, Mr. Goelzer was elected Fellow to the Financial Analysts Federation.
In 1989, Goelzer & Co. began a strategic business relationship with securities services firm Pershing LLC, a division of the Bank of New York. This relationship positioned the firm to be able to continue providing high-quality custodial and trade execution services to its growing base of individual and institutional clients. For over 70 years, Pershing has been a leading global provider of financial business solutions to many of the world’s most respected financial organizations. Its focus remains the safekeeping, servicing, segregation and reporting of the over $700 billion in assets held in its custody.
By the 1990’s, Goelzer & Co. became a leading independent investment advisory firm. In 1998, the company changed its name to Goelzer Investment Management, Inc. Goelzer continued to expand during this decade by providing the same high level of professionalism and personalized service to clients. In recent years Goelzer has significantly increased its professional staff, expanded its office facilities, and invested in systems to be able to continue to provide the highest level of service to clients while accommodating new business.
Throughout its history, Goelzer Investment Management has been active in the local community, supporting charitable and civic causes.
